i need opinions!!!!!!!!
as i said in other forums i got a new horse and he is a temperment 7 and very hyper. ok so, iv'e been going out to see clippy and the prievious owner gave me a saddle seat bridle and a bit to go with it and that does not work out for him, he acts up even more. so, iv'e been useing a low port snaffle bit and im not sure if its the bit or just him, but when i am just walking or trotting he will spin so fast in the other direction and it almost threw me off. so would i have to use a high port or something??? and i need ya'lls opinions on what bit i should use.
Have you gotten his teeth checked?
I'd go back to a simple snaffle, myself
well i got him about a week before christmas so iv'e only ridden about 6 times and the horsey dentist only come out about one or two time in the summer.
anyone else have opinions?/?//?//?
It sounds like a training issue, not necissarily a bit issue. Go back to ground work and build up your communication for a couple weeks and then start basics in the saddle with a basic snaffle (regular, french-link, or arched mullen mouth) and work from there.
ok, i will try that
What is he eating? Hay, grain, supplements, etc.
For now, until you can get the vet or dentist to look at him, I would put him in a rope nose side pull.

No bit, so nothing to bother his mouth.
Also, check his saddle fit. An ill fitting saddle can cause a horse to be hyper and spooky.
I agree, it doesn't really sound like a bitting problem, but rather it sounds like he's trying to spin around and go back to the barn. Thus a training issue. He probably is doing it as soon as you relax and your mind wanders off him for a moment. They know these things. lol So, try to pay attention to your riding at all times but if he spins then keep him going until he is facing the way you were originally heading. That always worked better for me than trying to stop them and turn them back.
ok that sounds helpful... thanks
What do you mean by saddleseat bridle ? Does it have two bits ?
