When to put new mares together?
I brought a another mare into our barn about a week + ago. Our other mare was all alone in the barn as our third mare is out for training (young and needs saddle work).
The new mare I brought in is 16ish/17ish, was owned by a young adult who could no longer afford to pay her board, feed. hoof care... Sad. But this little mare is nice on the ground and easy, so far, to work with.
Our fields are very muddy and there has been a lot of snow then rain in my area, (to see video of the flooding on my blog click here) and so I have kept the girls separated by a paddock panel with one in the field in the morning, one in the afternoon, for fear that if they were in the field together a conflict may happen... I cannot afford vet bills right now as I am just finishing off HUGE vet bills from an injury my youngest mare got while in training last year.
Question: any recommendation as to when I should put the mares together in the field?
