Do you see an improvement?
Playboy Reining - YouTube
Compared to my other thread: http://www.horseforum.com/reining/i-...g-show-158946/
The dirt was poo and on his first spin you can tell he tried to plant a foot towards the end. I just can't stand this whole "one spin" pattern thing. Urg.
Nice horse.. How long has he been doing reining. How many months training? I always loosen girth and remove bridle in arena and when there isnt anything going on in the arena I ride and walk slow stop for long periods of time and even feed in there.
I'd assume his whole life, it's the only job he has had other than sorting a few times.
I would TOTALY do that, if I had an arena;) I normally dismount after ever class and lead him out, however I forgot on this class:P

I definitely see some improvement. Was hard to see in the vid as the cameraman had the shakes:lol: but it looked like he didn't dive his lead changes like the last vid and his last slide was definitely and improvement on the first two slides. One thing I did notice is when you are running your big circles you have a nice speed rate, transfer some of that speed over to your run downs to get him sliding, because he looks like he can slide if he 'wants' to. At home practice stopping him on his back end so he uses his butt and doesn't run through the slides like he did in the first two stops during that run, ie. get him to halt rounded so it transfers to the slide - also if you need to pull him down into the slide then do it, because he knows his job and running through the slide is one of my pet peeves;) Trot circles, whoa, pick him up into 'frame' (I hate that word) rounded back and off your hands. He looks broke enough to just need a 'tuning up'
Keep at it, good job!!!
Ps. I couldn't really gain much from watching the 'spin' as it was just one turn!!
I wanted to punch that pattern in the face because of those turns. Really. WHO WRITES A ONE SPIN PATTERN!!! I'd been working so hard on my spins too -.-
And thanks! Now that the weather is calmed down her in OK, I will be able to haul to the arena more to work on the stops. I can turn and burn and go like cray, but to be honest stops are something that always make me a little scared..
He has improved, I can even tell that much from the shaky camera :)
He still is tossing his head and throwing himself into his right lead departure from the walk. But his lead changes are much cleaner, good job!
He is still half-assing his stops but still better than the first video :) I don't think he is taking you serious when you ask for them.
I know the one spin in the pattern sucks especially after backing! This is where preparation is so important to set him up to do it correctly.
He still has the habit of stepping behind when you are turning to the right. It is very important to know where his feet and weight is at and adjust accordingly.(especially after backing) He needs to learn to cross over in front of the right foot with the left front. It takes forward motion and shoulder control. And if I had to take a wild guess I bet he likes to lead with the right shoulder given that he likes to tip his nose out, toss his head and lead with that shoulder with the lope departure in that direction and the way he turns around.
Again, great improvement, in my opinion,
good job Mango!
You both look awesome! I liked your second spin :-)
I really wish I could show you the spins he did at the clinic. Perfect!
I know what he needs to be doing in the spin, and I can feel his hips moving, but even we he did perfect spins and planted his feet it felt the exact same?
He is getting his teeth done and sheath cleaned on Friday. I'm curious if maybe that's why he has been half assing his flying changes? All his man junk movin around got him uncomfortable?... XD
