Think good thoughts for a speedy recovery!
My old man dog (10 yrs old), Jimmy Carter, went in today to have a baseball-sized fatty tumor removed from under his belly. Vet confirmed after removal that it was benign (phew!). Since he was going fully under anesthesia, we also went ahead with tooth-cleaning. When they were doing the dental work, they decided to pull seven teeth because they were already so loose (with visible roots).
Poor old guy is going to be sore and grumpy for the next few days. We're going to have quite a time keeping our other dog from getting too rambunctious with him as he's healing. He's also a dog who loves his 2 miles of daily walks, not sure how we're going to change the routine while he's healing to keep him happy.
Anyway, would appreciate all good thoughts for him healing up quickly!
Here are a couple of of pics of Mr. President:
And here is the patient resting after getting home. He's really groggy & out of it. Poor guy. The incision site looks great though.http://i1354.photobucket.com/albums/...ps402a6bee.jpg
Poor guy, hope he gets well soon
Hope your dog heals quickly-do you have to change his diet now? I'm recovering from just having one tooth pulled-no picnic, believe me.
Aww, poor Jimmy! He'll feel better in no time though. Sending healing thoughts his way!
I appreciate all the well wishes. He seems to be doing great today. The incision site on his belly is still looking good- just a little redness, but he was getting anti-inflammatory medication all weekend and it helped keep the swelling down. He won't be able to go for a real walk for another couple of weeks so he doesn't exert himself too much and risk popping his stitches, but he's still a little slower than his normal self, so I don't think he'll mind too much. Probably the hardest thing at this point is keeping him from licking his belly- I'm sure it's itchy (and will get even worse as the hair starts to grow back from where he was shaved)- we're trying really hard not to make him wear that stupid cone the vet sent home with us, and so far, he's been willing to listen when we tell him "no!" when he starts licking. Though he looks mighty offended that we'd tell him that
