Most recent painting (critique please?)

Hi, I don't think I have every posted my art here. This is a recent Arabian portrait I finished. I would love opinions / critique/ comments! :D

{This piece has been re-sized significantly, it is about 3 - 4 x bigger in original form. Made with Photoshop, Wacom Inutos 5, and about 4 - 5 hours of work}

I ask that you please respect my art and do not steal it for any social networking or other distribution, thanks. :)

ok. I will give a critique.

I don't do computer art, so I can't crit there. But, the very first thing that stands out is that the horse's skull is not "true". I mean, its' eye are not in the correct alignment to match that of the nostrils.

When the head is turned at an angle, like that portrait, it's very important that the angle of the nostrils (If you drew a line from the center of one to the center of the other) be parallel to that of the eyes. yours has the horse's right eye a bit too low in it's skull. the resulting effect is that the skull is too "plastic", kind of warped .
I also think the jaw of the horse is a bit too small.

The modeling of the light/shadow is good and the overall composition is good.

Thanks! I see what you mean I agree, this was more or less a shading practice so I paid less attention to accuracy with the goal of a more stylize/expressive style but I definitely will keep that in mind next time, I think it may be my reference was at a different angle and it got mixed, maybe I'll fix it on this since my digital file is still editable.

Thanks a bunch :)

I have a lot of respect for digital artwork. It must be hard to do, initially.

it's always important to layout a skeletal 'framework' for you animal/human, if you want it to read "real".

Yes, it can be very frustrating, I took a while to adjust to it at first, now it's a bit easier. and yea, I usually do skeletal proportions unless I am sketching in like my newsprint-type sketch book :)
