Insane Show Stories!

ok, well this isn't as much insane as scary near death. Well it was the first day of a two day event. Everyone had settled in and we were all eating and we see this horse running down from the Dressage Warm-up ring area and the XC start-finish lines. It was coming down an stallion lane type thing between the indoor arena(being used as stabling) and someone said "loose horse" thinking he was going to the other barns to the other side of the open air tents we were eating in. It was fully tacked and had a lounge line on. the next thing I knew, my trainer had jumped up and was pushing me against the table, which was now half turned over, and I look over and I see this huge bay horse going through this 1'6" walkway inbetween the poles of the tent and the chairs. I felt is brush past me and we saw it gallop away. He had jumped over chairs and no one had been touched. It was insanly lucky.

Well, I was at a show about 5 years ago, and I was warming up for my first w/t/c class ever. I was on a horse named Ghost and we were outside of the ring... She spooked at something, bucked, I fell off, and she BOOKED it from one side of the show grounds to the other, jumping chairs, weaving through horses and trailers... until she got to one of the ponies we had brought along as well. I ended up breaking my arm... But as much as people said it wasn't my fault, I still do not to this day blame her. (She is no longer alive because shortly after, she ended up hurting her knee banging it on the gate during feeding time, and after a year or so, finally the barn had to put her to sleep).

that must have been an adventure. I'm sorry. I have lost ALL the school horses I learned to ride on. April got kicked in the heard, spunky and Jazz got old, and MayDay was sold.

We were at the show ground for a 5 day show(this was a 2 yrs ago) and me and these other kids around my age were playing with the horses in the show ring (it wasnt being used) and me and this chick switched horses and somehow this girl horse reared and freaked out Lion(the horse I was riding) and I fail off. The girl who was on Barney couldnt stop him in time and he was gallop straight towards me. I didnt even have time to think. I ducked my head and Barney jumped straight over me. The girl on him was scared too death. She got off him and Barney trotted over towards me and blew in my face. I could just imagine what he was thinking "Mom, your a idiot. But did you see me!!!"

I've been to several shows where loose horses are common... one sticks out the most though - this chestnut gelding broke free four times! The owner would just tie him back up after he was caught and the next thing you heard was galloping hooves! The horse then went onto compete and did pretty well - obviously had loads of energy! The scary thing about it was that the parking lot for the floats etc was right by a gate... I reckon they ought to have had someone on gate patrol and close it... cos the gate led right out onto the road!!

At my first show with my old mare April... we were warming up and went into the canter... the grounds were known for being a bit slippery (not muddy or nothing, it was almost summer then), but I had so far been okay and stupidly tried to steady my mare's canter but leant back a little more than I should have and suddenly she lost her footing and we both crashed down to the ground! April was fully checked over and was okay, and apart from an incredibly sore left shoulder, I was good too. Or so I thought... after getting back up, riding all my classes and then getting her back home and unloaded - my arm seized up. Went to the after hours center and was referred to another hospital for an ultrasound (got no xray)... that took place 4 days later.. thankfully they are obligated to do an xray before ultrasounds and found a nice chunk of bone floating off my shoulder! I broke the corner off! Lovely to know they diganose people fully eh!?

Wow. That must've been wicked scary, and I'm glad no one was hurt. But really, that mental image was pretty great. =) Especially with your little deal about what he was thinking.

Mine was just bad luck. It was the last class of the day, a HUGE wind came out of nowhere, blowing grass clipping into the air, and everything was flying around. Then the food tent broke free and came right at the ponies waiting to show, the tarp flew right over our heads. Trash cans were rolling into the ponies, and trash, papers, fly sheets, coats, everything was everywhere. It was ridiculous! Even dead broke school ponies were flipping out, and a bunch of kids got thrown and loose ponies were galloping about. It was crazy!

And then there's Holiday. He lifted his head after a nearby pony practically ran him down. He looked around, shook his head, and went back to sleep. We went on to win the class after the wind died down. Go holiday:lol:

I was in a flat class about three years ago, and I was trotting in the outdoor arena being judged. It was very windy that day, and a lot of tents were set up.

The wind was so strong, that it picked up the biggest tent of all and blew right into my horse and me. This horse freaked out and started spinning, bucking, and bolting. All at the same time! I finally came off and with all the commotion my horse made, he set another one off so we had two wild beasts running around! Someone finally caught both of them.

The funny part is... I still got fourth place!
