Saddle pad recommendations?

Hi everyone. I was thinking about purchasing a saddle pad online. Any good, reputable brand recommendations? It would be for a western, acrylic, lightweight western saddle. It's actually mostly nylon. (Whole set - saddle, breast collar, girth strap, nylon reins and bridle, bit - came with the horse). A pretty cheaply-made saddle, but perfect for me right now as I haven't ridden in years, so it's just a starter. It has "star" in the brand name, but I absolutely can't remember the name right now. If I could, I could get a pic from online to show you. LoL, it's definitely NOT a 5 Star, I know that much. Anyways, the sellers were nice enough to bring up a saddle blanket with it, but it's just the woven blanket style, not to mention purple. Since the set has lots of purple in it, I would like to tone it down a bit with a black pad (pure vanity, I know :-)). But I would like it to be a good quality pad, that's the main thing. I was wondering if the well-padded saddle pads are more comfortable for the horse...or is this just a misconception? Thanks!

The general rule is the better the saddle fits the less padding you need. But padding is essential.

Good brands for saddles are 5-star (very expensive) and Reinsman. Sure there are others, but those are two I'm familiar with. It's hard to get solid colored pads (I've learned this the hard way). Do you have a local tack shop? They usually have good pads and you can touch them.

The rule I learned is that you should pinch your finger and your thumb together and if you can feel your finger tip than the pad doesn't provide enough padding.

Hopefully that was useful
