PSSM: Routine Blood Panel?
My mare tied up severely this month last year. She's been on the diet since, and has been 99 percent good -- with a couple off days here and there. She's been competing in 50 mile CTRs almost every other weekend and doing very well. However, it's been suggested to me by several friends to do a "routine" blood panel to evaluate her muscle enzyme levels after exercise. In two weeks, I have the opportunity to take her to the vet the day after we return from a 50 miler in Virginia.
On one hand, if she is getting through 50s consistently well, then she's probably okay. On the other hand, I know that muscle damage can be occurring without obvious signs...
If this was your horse, would you get a blood panel done on her?
