Her first Fall

So I am teaching my 9yr old Niece how to ride, she wil be showing Dartanion in 10&Under.
At her first show they didn't have any 10&Under (which peved me off) so I put her in Novice Rider. She got 3rd otu of 3 against two adults  then 3rd out of 4 against 3 adults, She won because one man was holding his reins incorrectly (ddin't tell her this) but I felt a little jiped for her because she didn't get a fair chance to ride against kids her age but it was good practice for her :D I know she had fun.

Second up-date for her is she fell off for the first time yesterday.
I keep on telling her if she doesn't sit up while she rides she is going to fall off. She's not snotty or rude she's a very good listener. Well she kept leaning forward while she cantered, yeah D's a big horse for a 9yr old but she was doing great! then she leaned forward and began to fall D felt her falling and stoped and inturn she fell off the rest of the way lol. Sorry I laugh but she was fine and I think it was good for her to really understand WHY she has to sit back. She got straight back on and cantered again and sat up and back! yay! lol I also bought her a sunday for getting back on and not being scared or sreaming when she fell.

Glad she's okay! Where I ride they say you're not a true horseman/woman until you fall off . It's wonderful how you handled the whole event, she's lucky to have you show her the way.

Good for her! Sometimes you just have to live and learn.

That's so cute that you bought her ice-cream for not screaming. What a trooper! :D

Yeah, she's really doing great I'll have to get some video and pictures to show everyone. We've ridden in rain and wind and she's never complained once or talked back anything. She's EXCITED to clean stalls  lol and cleaned her own tack for the show (her grandps helped a little while she went to go and play for a few minutes) but over all not too bad. However I've noticed at this first show when she got nervous she couldn't keep the right diagonal, so I think with more showing that will become easier for her.

P.s. I also told her that the more you fall the better rider you are, HOWEVER falling off on purpose will only get you multiple laps of posting with no stirrups hehe.

Great trainers think alike!

We always have a Candy Party when someone falls off. Keeps everyone from feeling like a failure for falling off. So far no one has attempted to fall off on purpose (probably because they know I would provide the appropriate level of torture during their next lesson!).

LOL I like that candy party idea! that's super cleaver! I remember the stirrupless posting because when I had a trainer, she had done that to me before because I was honestly being lazy. I got energy super fast! hehe
