Anybody else do this?
Am I the only one or do you people all ride with dogs too? Everytime we go for a horse ride my 3 dogs all follow and their also off leash the whole time. Their a border collie,a yellow lab and a Pomeranian/yorkie mix (the mix is a small dog and he loves going!) lol. I was just wondering if anybody else does this? :-)

I know a lot of people that do this. I don't have dogs, so I don't personally don't, but as long as the horse is comfortable with the dogs it is a great way to get the dogs moving.

I let my dogs come along if circumstances are right. Right is out in my fields or down the road at low traffic times. Not right is when going out with others or if there is things might not be safe for the dogs.

Almost always have dogs along when we ride, as for instance here:

And yeah it is defiantly a good way to get the dogs exercise without having to do any work:wink: lol. My horses are actually pretty good with the dogs running all over! Lol

At my barn we have two Aussies they always trail along.

I leased a horse a few years ago who's owner has an aussie that always came with us on the trails, and even occasionally came out with me alone! She was a real sweetheart.

I bring my dog to the barn a lot (off leash) but haven't tried taking her alone on the trails yet since there are frequently people who walk their dogs in the washes and I'd hate to disturb the peace! haha.

I've ridden with 1-50 dogs before. These days, usually only 1 dogs comes along for the trail. She's the barn dog.

Some boarders bring their dogs to the barn and they aren't very well behaved. You can't expect them to be, it's like Candy Land to them and they are excited. It's very obnoxious though.

I will take my dog on the trails on my property, but not elsewhere. Reason being, I have ridden with a friend who takes her dog and although it's basically a good dog, it doesn't listen very well. Not a problem in the bush, but she rides on side roads to get to the bush and it's stressful for me to be aware that the dog is going into people's driveways and is all over the road. I really feel for the drivers that meet her because she might be on one side of the road and the dog is on the other. Terrible; I just hate it. Too bad because for that reason I don't ride with her very much.
