So i got Whisks back today, but unfortunately she'd been sitting on her arse in the trailer and the top of her tail has been rubbed raw, it's not deep, but she was bleeding and the hair is gone, i've given it a wash and put some sudocream on it which seemed to give her some relief.
How long will it take for her hair to grow back?
Is there anything i can put on it to help the healing process?
How soon can i put hair growth products on to it, do i wait till any scabbing that will occur is gone?
Is it worth while putting her fly rug on her once it's scabbed over?
I would suggest washing the top of the tail with medicated shampoo, which will reduce the chances of it getting infected. Once the top of the tail is healed, use M-T-G, it helps with fungal infections and also helps speed hair growth!
I used MTG on my horse when I came down to the barn one day to see her long, thick, beautiful tail gone overnight because she got it stuck between the fence and the gate and pulled it all off :( I think her tail was back to normal in 4 months or something, but you can definitely see a difference much earlier!
Here's a photo, the white stuff is sudo cream. I'm going to order some camrosa gel as apparently it works really well.
Will her tail grow back the same colour?
It might come in white, if it's severe. If this happens and you show, you can buy hair dye to cover it.
don't use Sudocream,it is an antiseptic and drys the area out too fast,I know because a couple of mths ago a horse dragged me down a road and I suffered burns from the Tarmac/asphalt ,I did ent go to the hospital just bathed and put sudocream on my hip and leg ,after a week all one side felt like it was on fire and when I moved I could feel the skin stretching.i had to go to the hospital, the dr told me about the effect sudocream has ,if I were you I would clean the area every couple of days with warm soapy water and in between put a liberal coating of Vaseline on it
I never heard of that, but the very name suggests fly attractor
I bought some camrosa ointment for her, i've read some really good stuff about it.
may do it her tail looks the same as my side and leg lol
Any equine/bovine triple antibiotic ointment. After it scabs over good M-T-G is great it is anti microbial and regrows hair quickly. Hope it heals fast.
