Help with a muddy horse!

My pony Belle lives out all year round (I'm down in New Zealand) and she currently isn't covered. It's the start of winter so it's just got to all the mud and she's grey (well on her way to being more of a shade of mud brown...!) & fluffy. Does anyone have any tips on the fastest way to get rid of the dirt and excess hair? Like special brushes or anything? I have limited time every day after school before it gets dark and I ride bareback mostly because her coat is so long it's hard to get every single bit of dirt out and I worry she'll get rubs from the saddle if I miss a spot!

.

If the mud is dried, we have always had great luck removing dried mud using a Curry like this http://www.amazon.com/Decker-Jumbo-Spring-Curry-31-J/dp/B000HHODD6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1371466799&sr=8-2&keywords=horse+curry+comb

Be sure to curry the area with a rubber curry in a circular fashion to bring the dirt to the surface the follow this with a good brushing then with a soft bristled body brush. Finally, use a damp white rag to wipe the saddle area in the direction of hair growth. This will pick up the fine dirt on the surface and being white it will show you how good a job you've done.

If you've got limited time I'd shell out and buy a canvas sheet.....I love those canvas sheets in NZ, haven't been able to find one here in Canada, next time I come home I'm going to buy one and bring it back!!!!

Perfect timing! I want one for the spring lol. I love those canvas sheets but they are a *bleep* to find.

I'll burn the blue dress for you, you can use one of the nice blue dresses I have for my bridesmaids :D

Haha they're probably the easiest cover to buy over here :) I have a few covers, but she only wears them when it's cold enough to be necessary, prefer for her to be natural, as she has a bit of a talent in ripping them to pieces!
