Mane

My mustangs mane is going on both sides of him... the top half lays one way and the bottom half the other... is there any way i can make it all go one way?

I don't have an answer for you but I just wanted to share a bit of trivia with you. I read or saw something about how a horses mane falls determines which brained it is.
If its on the left side its left brained on the right right brained. I'm not sure how true it is but figured I'd throw it out there.
Maybe your horse is using both sides of its brain which is a good thing. If you try to make it all go one way, you may be dumbing him down

You could try braiding it? I don't know, hmm. That's what makes him unique! :D

I need to post a retraction. It was left shouldered or right shouldered not "brained" although it does kinda make sense  .... sorta
here's the video its pretty interesting in itself.

Thunder's mane used to fall to the right side evenly, then I started braiding it here and there and now it does the same thing as yours and the top half falls on the left and the bottom on the right. Once you are able to start grooming him, you can try cutting the bridle path and that may help. It helps mine pretty good. But I wouldn't attempt taking scissors to his mane for sometime seeing as though you can barely touch him ;). Just keep brushing it too that might help.

You can use a sleazy hood to "tame it" and it'll start growing on the side you want it on.

lol free_sprd yes this is for down the road :) but i have heard braiding helps keep it to one side

and a sleazy hood?

free_sprtd 01-27-2009 10:28 PM

hahaha yes but you'd be surprised how some people will actually go out and do it ;) Sorry, habit of reminding people ;)

PiggyPablo 01-27-2009 10:59 PM

Yeah a sleazy hood ;) They work wonders. They sell them all over and you can get them at good prices on tack classifieds. Keeps them clean too.
