Im saveing up for english tack instead of borowing my friends saddld and useing a western bridel. So i need help finding a saddle and bridle. should i get boots not jumping yet so should i use then for pleasure flatwork? i allso don`t know what pads i should need. i think my english saddle size is 17.5 not completly sure i use 16 in western. I whant a bridel and saddle the same brand. also do saddles come with sturps or not.
I just bought an English saddle at my local tack shop, used, for $300, its in basically perfect condition as well! (riding my horse english and western now) So if your local tack shop sells used saddles, stop by and take a look. You can also try ebay, they have TONS of saddles. My saddle and bridle are not the same brand, and they look like they go perfect together. By boots do you mean human boots? if so you should get a pair of paddock boots, western boots will not put your feet in the right position on an english saddle. I use a regular pad on my horse, like this:
Riders International Quilted Cotton Saddle Pad - Dover Saddlery
and then a half pad underneath. Though every horse does not need a half pad. I use mine for extra cushioning and to raise the back of the saddle a bit. Usually saddles come as a saddle only. You will probably have to by the irons and leathers sepperatly.
Fillis Style Stirrups - Dover Saddlery
btw i am a 16 western and 17 english.
My tack shop does not sell used saddles and i was going to buy a new saddle and i all ready ride in padock boots.lol by boots i mignt for the horse or wraps.
oo haha! ok, well dover, and stateline all have tons of new saddles. As for horse boots i'm not sure; i've been pondering on what to use on my horse.
English saddles don't usually come with stirrups (except those very cheap starter sets). So you'll have to pay separately for saddle/pad/stirrups/girth + bridle (I use western too, btw).
Can you try different saddles in your local store, find the one you like and then look up on ebay or internet stores (I know galloping grape (spell? :) ) on this forum has some used ones)?
