Felicity<3<3Critique my Filly
This is Felicity, my 2 years and 7 months old Palomino Quarter Horse. She is around 14.2-14.4 HH. She is a little chubby but we are working on that. She moves off pressure really well, and is getting awsome while free-lunging in the round pen. We are gonna start putting a saddle blanket and small saddles on her soon. I have leaned across her back with my full weight before and she didnt seem to care. I'm gonna get on her this summer(bareback) and let someone lead us around. Are we going at a good pace? How Does she look? BTW- the place where I board her doesnt really like to start horses untill they are like 4 years, but i think im gonna wait untill she is 3 1/2 years, is this ok?

She def looks like her daddy. The only things I notice is that she has a very short thick neck and a thick throatlatch with a pretty big head. Her back is a little short and something about her butt bothers me. Does she always stand camped out like that? Other than that, I don't really notice anything. She ought to make a really nice trail horse or ranch horse. Would probably make a good roping horse too depending on how fast she is. There is absolutely nothing wrong with waiting until they are 4 to start them. Anything from 2 1/2 and up is fine but I try to remember that the younger they are, the lighter the work they can withstand. As far as the pace of her training, there is no bad pace except for backward. You go as slow as you need to stay comfortable and confident. Who cares if it takes a year to get her broke if you have a nice horse at the end of it. There are too many people who rush training and make big mistakes.

She has a short neck by the way the pics look. Like Smorbs said, she looks bunched to me. It looks like an unnatural position.

but other then that shes very pretty. Looks like her daddy.

She doesn't always stand like that, she was being a spazzy mare that day....haha!

And if i can ask a question, What is wrong with a thick throatlatch?

Being new to the horse world, I have no idea what it affects! haha

There is nothing wrong with it exactly other than it is just not really attractive. If you were planning to ride her english, it would inhibit her ability to collect her neck and get the proper head set. I am assuming that you plan to ride her western? Other than that, it is just more of an attractiveness issue. Lots of QH have thick throatlatches.

Definetly going to ride western, english isn't my thing. I don't mind the whole "looks" thing, probably just going to do 4-H and maybe barrels if i can....but only for fun.

She ought to do great if she is fast enough (for barrels that is). Good luck.

Her necks a bit short, we have a QH horse, although she might grow out of the thick throatlatch, although i said the same thing about english, then i was talked into english, i still ride western, but english helped alot with my balance.
