Ariat Paddock: Westchester vs. Cobalt

Hey guys. So after a month of using them, I HATE my zip-up paddock boots (the leather's too stiff and I loathe the fit with the zipper) and am thinking I will get a pair of the Ariats that lace up. I've been looking at am considering either the

Westchester Lace

Ariat International - Ariat ® Women's Westchester Paddock Lace

or

the Cobalt Performer Pro

Ariat International - Ariat® Women?s Cobalt? Xr Performer Pro

Anyone have any experience with either of these? I found the Cobalts to try on here and they seem nice, but no one has the Westchester, so I'm not sure about them.

Oh the Cobalt boots have got to be better!

Why do you say that?

I think its because her horse's name is Cobalt :D

I have the westchesters and like them. I tried on the Cobalts but found that the back seam seemed to bother me a bit.

just curious, how often do you ride in your boots? have they broken in properly? Until the zip ups are fully broken in I find them to be a little loose around the ankles. Once they are, they are very snug and very very comfortable! It takes almost 2 weeks for mine to fit just right but I wear my boots all day every day. Once I went zip up I will never get laces!

Cobalts are my favorite. I've been told by every tack shop I've been into that Ariat Cobalt are the longest lasting highest quality paddock boot that's on the market. I personally can't get more then about a year or a year and a half of use out of mine but everyone says that they will last longer then anything else out there. But like I said, I'm in them ALL DAY. Riding several horses a day, walking through mud, dry sand, washing horses, etc. For the average rider they last significantly longer. :-)

well I'm on my new pair now :)
My old pair lasted me 3 years, riding about 3-4 times a week. and they fit pretty well-although for some reason, I kerep on fighting with the laces on these new ones! they keep on undoing on one foot and loosening my boot :P
I haven't tried the zips. I keep on fearing that the zipper will break with continual usage :P

Not sure about the Westchesters but the Cobalts have the best zippers of all the Ariat boots. They're not nearly as flimsy as the Heritage or cheaper models. I've had 1 pair of zippers go out on me... generally the leather gives out before the zippers do. :)

I have the lace up cobalts. I think they are on their 4th year, but honestly, they need to be replaced this spring. Also, I wear another winter version of the Ariats, so I only wear the cobalts from spring until winter starts.

When I first got them, I thought they were stiff and bothered me a little, but once they broke in, they have been my favorite boots.

I wear them almost everyday and I wear them for a long time usually. I do equine therapy for a living and I wear them to work in, to ride in, and sometimes I wear them to hike in with my dogs. I love how much support they have in the soles and the heels have multiple layers of gel that help keep your feet comfy.

I have been watching for a sale to get a new pair this year. I used to have to buy a new pair of boots every year before I got my cobalts.

Partly I think it is that I made the mistake (and I should have known better) of buying cheap boots (Treadstones I think). I was concerned when I bought them about the overly stiff leather, but was told they would break in. To be fair, I've only been riding in them a couple times a week for a month, but I've also worn them around some. I find I can't walk comfortably in them and they really are way too loose on my ankle. I've even tried cleaning and conditioning the leather, but no luck. So, I think getting some better boots and also getting the lace-ups should help. That's what I always used to ride in, so it just feels better to me.
