- - Riding Major

Today I managed to get through Majors bucking. When I asked him to move forward he took off running and bucking....I grabbed my left rein and pulled it towards me, making him go in a circle. After that, he acted a whole lot better! I still havent got him to stand to be mounted, but at least I managed to ride out the buck and get him to settle down and ride right. I made him walk though...like a regular horse...I wouldnt even let him get in his running walk for fear that he would try and take off again.

That happened to me last week. I managed to stop Dakota when he took off by planting my right fist on his neck and pulling the left rein towards me.

All I had to do was just pull his head around and he stopped. Im really hoping he wont try it again since he saw that he didnt get me off. It really scared me when he started bucking...I wouldnt want to have to ride that out much. I was so scared I was literally shaking, but I knew better than to get off.

never get off unless he throws you, then get back on lol. eventually he will learn you will win no matter what the case is

Have you tried to work off some of his "freshness" before getting on?

lol thatd probably be a good thing to do. I really dont mind his high energy as long as hes not using it to buck me off or run away with me. maybe thats something to consider while im trying to trust him again, though

I hear ya Sandy. I have a younger one that's full of beans most of the time. I usually run his butt around in circles for a few minutes before a ride or lesson. I'm too old to sit big bucks LOL

My gelding runs around like a maniac sometimes on the lunge line. Its good to get all that energy out of there system before you get on them. I agree with g and ks mom that you should try and work him on the ground before you get on. This will most likely help with the issues you are having.
