Help need to get he tie wiggles out of my horse
Short story, this is my Charley..Ive had him almost one whole year now. He came to me untouched for 2yrs prior and is now five yrs old. (Trained -put to pasture - now with me)
I have done a lot of ground work with him "Clinton Anderson"
He has improved tremendously in a years time! Now my only set back is that when he is tied he chews at the lead rope, paawwwssss the ground, and side steps...He is a naughty boy being tied:evil: I cannot figure how to get this behavior out of him?!
Please if you have any ideas let me know.
His personality is that while tied, acts like a child but only if I am within eye sight. When I step out of view he is as normal as normal can be "Stands there quietly and takes a nap!"
Ugh, this horse is pretty nifty and is quick at testing..But makes it difficult for me to handle while he is tied for saddling and not to mention just plain ol' annoying.
Ignore him. Sounds like he's getting a kick out of you reacting. Don't give him that kick. Act as if he's a statue. He'll quit. And most likely find something else to amuse himself....;-)
Thank you I'll give that a shot! He prob does get a kick out of my reactions..I am usually "NO! Cut it out!!! Stop that!!!" Smack...
And he's patting himself on the back " gotcha...again..." lol
Next time I'll try this desert and when he is standing quiet and calm then I will lead him off the tie..Normally I dismiss this behavior thinking he will grow out of it and act like it never happens, unless he is really getting on my nerves then I do the above reactions ^^^^And your right! I can see his mind working and that is exactly that he is thinking...Gotcha!
Does he display similar behaviour at feeding time?
No saddle not at feeding times...Only when Tied..At feeding times he was pinning ears when he seen the food coming but I would turn my back w/the food and not give it to him till both ears are forward..(We dont have that problem anymore) If your thinking maybe he's colicing' No, that's not it..This is pure annoying attitude he is giving me because he wants off the tie. Or like desert said he is playing a game w/me out of boredom..
Or he's apprehensive that while tied he can't escape if something wants him for dinner.
He's doing it to get attention. If he was the same while you're out of sight, then I might think he's feeling trapped. Just ignore him and only untie him if he's standing still.
