What are some good english riding youtube channels?
Does anybody here know of some good youtube channels for english style riding? I'm thinking mostly for tutorials and so I can watch other people do it. Feel free to post your channel too if you have one.
Not sure about YouTube channels, but the best videos I ever watched for my riding seat were Sylvia Loch's The Classical Seat 1, 2 and 3. They're very much dressage based (no jumping or anything) but part 1 really teaches you so much about what a good basic seat is like. I learned "wrong" for so many years as a kid, and drove my new instructor crazy as she was trying to fix my seat problems. I saw that video, next lesson and henceforth I was 1000 times improved. The horse was so much more free underneath me, sitting and rising trot were effortless, canter was so smooth (on a kangaroo-hopping horse too). While 90% of riding really really just takes time and practice to get good, one great video, book or lesson can really push you in a massive leap forward if you feel like you're getting stuck in a rut.
Warning: the 3 part set cost me $90. It was well worth it for me but you're probably best off spending money on lessons for the moment and wait until you feel like you've not made any progress for about 4 weeks.
Riding's not really something you can learn off e-how or YouTube though, it takes muscle memory and lots of practice, much like learning a musical instrument. Having natural balance helps speed up the process but I'm wonky as anything and my body has just learned to compensate to evenly distribute my weight. Also, your muscles need to stretch in a way they haven't before, especially your calf muscles. Once you have a nice stretchy calf and can relax your leg and let your weight just drop into your heels (rather than gripping with the knee or forcing your heels down), riding becomes a lot easier. Doing lots of work without stirrups is fantastic for balance and preventing gripping with your knees.
I love ArttoRide. Some of the stuff may be a bit confusing when you are starting out, but it will give you an idea of what you will eventually trying to achieve. I find they explain this quite simply (not to technical) and it is easy to understand :)

Jane Savoie also has a good channel :)
I find both those really helpful.

I find him quite confronting, he can be very rude, HOWEVER he knows his stuff!! It is not for English riders, he rides Western, but his video's mostly apply to ground work, and you could learn a lot from his videos.
Ahh yes, good video. Thanks
