Does Cosequin really work?
So I just got thinking about this. I know Cosequin is "scientifically proven to work" but do you really think that is the case?
My gelding has been on Cosequin Asu for 8 months. My vet told me this is the best one to use. And then they came out with the ASU+ which I've never tried. I automatically put him on it the second day I had him so I can't compare how he moved before he was on it. The only thing I noticed was that his joints use to pop and crack sometimes which has stopped since being on Cosequin.
My friend had a thoroughbred who she swares it never worked for. I told her she could try putting him on just MSM and she said that worked alot better for him.
So what do you guys think? It depends on the horse I'm assuming. I'm wondering if I'm just better off buying MSM and seeing how that works but again, I have no idea how he looked before he was on it other then the joints making noise. I want to make sure it atleast works for the amount of money I pay for it.
He does have navicular and a tiny bit of arthritis starting up and he's on previcox but my vet said to leave him on Cosequin cause it will help along side with the previcox.

I did not use Cosequin Asu because it didn't have enough pain control. I had excellent results on SmartPak's SmartFlex Resilience III. It has 10,000 milligrams of MSM in addition to the usual joint compounds. I have friends who have used it successfully though.
I have used Cosequin ASU twice in the past when my horse was a little stiff and creaky. Both times I just did one jar, which lasted about 3 months, and then took him back off it. Both times I got results. I do think it works better than some other similar products. Lot's of $10 coupons out there for that stuff if you look around in feed stores and in magazines.
I use cosequin asu just for maintenance as recommended by the lameness specialist in my area. She does not have lameness issues or hock issues, but I am just preparing for the future as I do eventing.
It is interesting to me that you don't use it long term my boy puck!
