GRR!! IT JUST FRUSTRATES ME SO DARN MUCH WHEN PEOPLE CRITISISE CERTAIN BREEDS!!
eg: typical arabian, or typical thoroughbred!!!:^3!!!!!!!!!!!
also why do people hate standy so much?? acording to some people i have the worlds 2 worst breeds, a tb and a standy!
they say standys are bad cos they cant eb re-trained, YES THEY CAN!! AND MY GIRL NEVER HAD ANY TRIAING AS TO RACING WHAT SO EVER, SO WHY SAY SHE WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE TO TRAIN??? grr sorry for my venting but it just annoys me so darn much!!
try not to let it get to you... everyone has their opionions on the "best breed".
As far as training just prove them wrong by training your horse to what you want.
I know how you feel. You see I have the worlds "worst" breed, appys!!
Been told, without asking for any opinions, how stubborn, stupid, untrustworthy, hard to train, ill natured ect... they are. I just let their stupidity and closed mindedness roll off me. Makes me laugh because all these opinions about the ENTIRE breed was based on one or two apps they had seen or ridden... hmmm.....(eyebrow raised).
I thoroughly enjoy watching their faces when my horses take everything in stride and all the other horses around them go nuts over whatever came across the trail.
My grandmother always said the "proof is in the pudding". Let foolish people talk, it's mostly for themselves not you, and go about your business. Don't feel you need to say a word. I have always found silence says it so much louder!
My first pony was an appy and she was the best horse I've ever had haha (She even had a tail! Scrubby mane though...)
I grew up on a Standardbred track...I think they're great horses and can definitly be trained to do whatever you want with them.
Don't let people get you down, everyone has their own preferences.
I own an Arab, and he is a super pony, yet I probably wouldn't buy another arab. I personally, will not buy a TB. BUT that is personal preference. If other people are happy with their TB's or Standies or whatever, then good on them. There is always going to be breed bias, just like there is bias in every aspect of life. I always enjoy beating people on my 'silly ayrab'.
Mahjik, i think TBs and SBs are 2 of the best breeds!:D However they, like all breeds, have their bads points (as well as their good, of course) and I think it just depends on individual people as to which bad point they dislike more, and therefore which breed they don't like.
e.g. Some people may really dislike high-strung horses, and so TBs do not apeal to them. But they don't mind putting the time and effort into retraining a Standie, and vice versa. Did i make sense? :?
well said RedHawk.
It is a personal prefence issue for most of us, however some horse don't have the right body type to do some jobs ie a 900 lb Florida cracker can't be used to rope cattle, or can a shetland pony be used a full size hunter/ jumpers. Their body can handle that kind of use. And, if breed "A" can't do this job it is a horrible breed and I have no use for it. part of that of the reasoning behind some of that hate.
Everyone is going to be somewhat biased against ceartain breeds. I have heard some things about the curlies: "oh, they must be hard to groom! Too much for me!" or "Wow, they look werid, like they have cushings..." Just let it roll off your back. Be a good representative of your breed and sport the best of the best. Sure, alot of people hate the Arabs and the Standardbreds, but alot of people are avid followers and are just like you, lovers of their breed! Be proud of what breed you love! :D
I honestly think that there are good and bad in each bread. But that it really depends on the horse and who's training them. I have had several different breeds. 2 tbreds, both not hot, one was off the track the other was a rescue. I have an Appy, who is the bestest horse ever, qtr horses, one is missing a screw and is conformationaly defunct, POA's, Welsh, and a new adition a halfflinger. I have seen it all, and I don't think it can be breed specific. But there will always be people who like to sterotype.
I have also seen a person who gets horse after horse, different breeds, and they all end up acting the same, wonder why? G could it be the rider???
Anyway that's my 2 cents.
