Ever since yesterday we have a few month old kitten in the house and when i was washing up some things yesterday I heard him wail and then i saw him limping and he's been limping ever since yesterday. He's okay when i touch it but as soon as i pick him up and support his leg, he wails again. I was wondering if I should take him to the vet or not. My dad says he was playing around yesterday morning on the stairs with our other cats but I didn't see him limping until after he wailed yesterday.
Go for at least another day before taking him to the vet. He could have sprained it, stepped on it wrong, or pinched it. That's the only things I could think of right now. Poor Kitty!!
Take him to the vet. It could be broken or something. Poor little fellow I hope he feels better soon!
Anyone have any other opinions? It doesn't seem broken, I have some vet wrap for my horse I was thinking of using on his leg but I'm not too sure what to do. I'm pretty tight for money so unless I absolutely have to take him to the vet I will. He's been sleeping a lot more than normal too, like now he's spending half his day sleeping.
He could be resting up to get better - when I am sick I always go to sleep because when you move around and such, then you are using less energy to fix your injuries and what not.
If he is a kitten then it can sometimes be normal, because they are still growing and they need sleep! Plus cats are nocturnal more than anything else. I hardly see my cat during the day, then at night he meows his head off and rubs all over me like I am abusing him because he was some love and I am trying to sleep!! hehe
Is it swollen any? Maybe keep ice on it. You could also call your vet and ask what you can give her for any pain.
Cats rarely complain, unlike dogs. So if this kitten is complaining it's time to see the vet.
So I waited until today to see how he was and the only change I've noticed is that he will step on it lightly but still limps, but he's also meowing a lot more than yesterday. I think he just sprained it and I'm still not too sure about that trip to the vet.
If the cat is in enough pain to cry, he is in severe pain.
I have known cats to break their legs, to rip themselves open, have to lance wounds on cats and them barely make a fuss. Not because they don't feel it, but because it's against their nature to reveal pain.
Take the kitten to the vet or find someone who can.
As someone who has spent the last 8 years working in a vet office with cats exclusively, I agree that your kitten should see the vet. Saddlebag is right that cats are very stoic. When they are actively showing signs of pain they should definitely receive medical care.
Lethargy is also a big indicator that your kitten isn't feeling well.
I would suggest crate confinement until you can get to a vet if the kitten is still limping. You want to restrict activity to avoid him injuring the leg further. Confinement will also let you monitor his eating since inappetence is also a symptom of kitties not feeling well.
ETA - please do not put vet wrap on his leg! It is very easy to improperly bandage such small critters. I've seen cats lose legs because of too tight things wrapped around them and it isn't something any kitten should have to go through!
