Discharge from eyes
Hi every one im new to the site and slowly finding my way around. I have a blue eyed apaloosa 23yrs old who for the past 2 yrs as suffered from running eyes. They are not infected it looks like he is crying. The vet says it could be scarred tear ducts. Anyone else have this problem? If so any tips on caring/treating this.:?
does it happen more when he's outside? i find my horse who also has blue eyes is very sensative to sunlight. i'll put a fly mask over his face when he's turned out and that helps some.
The fly mask is a great idea. I had a filly who had runny eyes from the day she was born. I never had her tested but I assumed it was allergy's. I think as long as the discharge is clear or whitish I wouldn't worry about it. I always kept a hanky on hand to wiper her eyes.
Vida's eyes will run when she is on hay in the winter. She clears up in the summer time when she is back on pasture, but they all like to bury their heads in the hay bale so its normal for them to get runny eyes and as far as I know theres nothing you can do about it.
Here is a good article on the possible problem:

I actually used a tea when my horse had this issue. Basically did strong tea solution, took cotton balls and wipe the eyes to the inside will they were clean (of course tea should be warm, not hot and preferably not very cold). It worked for me.
