schooling show grooming?
When you go to schooling shows, do you go all the way with grooming? Like, clipping, braiding, sleezies, etc., etc.. I know, at the least, you should give him a bath and brush him good, but is pulling out all the stops worth it? I live here in Oklahoma, and we're pretty lucky to have any English shows at all, but since we just bought Pyro and we're only going to be doing trot poles/walk trot classes, would it be worth it to braid his mane and just go all the way with grooming for the up-coming show in March? I want him to look nice, but I don't want him to look TOO nice... if that makes sense... Like going in Black-tie to a casual barbecue?

I personally go all out at schooling shows. When you really think about it a lot of people use schooling shows to school for breed, rated, congress and world shows. I doubt you would be kicked out the ring if you are not braided but if you enter an EQ class and the judge has to tied with someone else it can possibly fall upon who has the best turn out. If you don't care how you place and just want a good fun schooling day then treat it that way and have fun :D. Well you should have fun no matter what but I believe you get what I am saying.

It's nice to see someone that rides English and is from oklahoma, cuz its the same here.
For schooling shows its usually half and half, I prefer to braid.

yeah, i understand what you're saying ;D I always have fun

and EVERYONE at school that has horses, rides western, its crazy. I probably would of ended up riding western if i hadn't of moved to NJ to live with my grandpa for a year(the year i got bit ;3). I've ridden western before, but nothing beats the thrill of galloping across a field and going over a 3ft log xD

anyways, back on topic...

I've never braided before, so that's why i was wondering... I don't know if i should start practicing now before the show, or just not braid at all. I want to get more serious this year, now that I have a sound horse, but how serious is too serious, you know? So I think I'll practice my braiding, and see how much he progresses in the next month. I don't think I'll braid him if we're only going to be doing trot poles... i think thats a little much, but if he's to the point of cross rails, i'll probably braid, thanks! :D

I don't braid typically for the schooling shows. I just bathe and then groom REALLY good.

I think the first show of the season, I'm going to pull out all of the stops, so he'll look purdy for his big debut xD i'll just have to see how long it takes and if the outcome will be worth it for the next show.

I braid for all shows except showjumping.

Why not show jumping?
i thought that was when people braided the most?

Are you talking about the GO schooling show at the OKC fairgrounds? If so, I wouldn't braid for that. No one does, esp the walk/trot classes. Make sure his mane is pulled nicely, clip his ears/muzzle/legs, bathe before you go. (although they have several wash stalls, don't think it's heated though)

Usually in showjumping (at least in jumpers) you don't braid. Some will for the really big Grand Prix or for the bigger shows but since you're not being judged on turnout most people don't put out the extra effort. And, there are when you need a little mane to grab. :)
