critique appendix all-arounder and help me with naming

This is our new appendix gelding. he is 10 years old. 15.3 hands tall. He was pretty underweight when we got him and hes gaining pretty good. He is an appendix I believe. We got no papers with him. I think he looks more tb than the qh side. I want him to be my all arounder. He rides awesome and already has tons of energy. I want him to be my barrel horse, English horse, maybe some playing around out on the xc course. And maybe even some limited distance rides with AERC. Tell me what you think about his confo! The ground in these pics is flat. And his name is Diesel but we already have a dog with that name. He needs a new name!

The side shot is not ideal for critiquing since his head is part way down, but from what I can tell he has a nice length of neck that appears to tie in a bit low. His back is an ok length but he's long and very weak through the coupling and he needs some serious topline building (I know you said you are working on that). He has quite tall withers. This horse appears pretty upright on both ends - upright shoulder, upright pasterns and a bit post legged in the rear. Croup is steep and hip is a bit short. I like his length of leg, large feet and his bone appears adequate.

I agree that he could well be an appendix. I think his weight looks pretty good at this point (maybe could use just a few more lbs) and would be looking for some hills to work to build muscle. I think with good muscle development he will look much better. Better photos might also reveal that some of what I am seeing is a result of bad photo angle or the way he is standing.

Yeah he's got a steep croup and he needs a lot of muscle too. I'll get better shots soon :)

Agree and agree. Very high withered. Straight all around. Probably wont make a super good barrel horse, but sometimes they surprise you. Definitely work on putting some muscle on him.

Holy withers batman!

He is pretty straight all around like everyone else said, but if he is going to be a all around horse, I think he will work for what you want. :)

He is a very good looking boy. I would call him Batman. (because of his tall withers ;) )

Well looks like I won't be keeping this gelding. Turns out he's a habitual bucker and has no brakes.
