She's in FOAL (and due in MAY!) - pictures
So last year I bred my TB mare Opal to the OLD NA stallion Mannhattan for a 2009 baby (due May 6th). At insemination, she was double ovulating, at 15d, there was just one with evidence of the 2nd being reabsorbed (all good we thought!) and at 40d there was nothing....so we assumed that when reabsorbing the one, it disrupted the other and neither took. She's a maiden mare, 9 years old when bred, will be 10 this spring. Well, she started getting funny shaped but hasn't been in work in the winter so didn't think too much of it, til this weekend when we pulled off her blanket and she's a big as a house, but lean in the shoulder, and her stomach MOVED!
So we had the vet out today to confirm, and sure enough, there's a bun in the oven! And due in 2 mos!!!!! OMG!!!! I am SO excited! It's my first time breeding one of my personal horses (I have been involved in breeding before), but I am so excited I can't even tell you. She's due early May, and hopefully it will be a boy. If all goes well, she'll get bred back on foaling heat to most likely Edelweiss....
Here's some pics!

Who I'll breed her back to provided this one is a colt:
Edelweiss De Bonce
wow! Mom and dad are gorgeous! and so is the future dad!
It must be so excited to be expecting in 2 months!
Seriously I had NO idea til this week...I mean i had suspected, but then it was like no way, there's nothing there at 40d, it should have been obvious. You know? But yeah! I can't believe it! Meanwhile I was planning on breeding in April lol!!!!
(and for anyone interested, she's my personal horse, and either/both babies may or may not be for sale but will ALWAYS have a home with me for life, and will go through all appropriate breed registration and approval processes and gelded accordingly, etc etc etc end disclaimer here...lol)
Oh and she's full sister to my gelding jumper Sky...
She's got great value as a race broodmare too, but is also a wonderful athlete in her own right. Her brother (and her) can both be a bit high strung, him more than her, and the stud is known for throwing good temperament. Also Sky is jumping 4' at home with ease, so once I get his show brain in tact lol he'll be fine - we show much lower than we school at home bc I want to build confidence, and really don't have the $$$ to compete at the highest levels so would much rather be solidly successful than pulling just for ribbons you know?
Opal is 10 this spring and her brother is coming 11. They are amazingly talented, with a foundation in dressage, and both compete in jumpers. Have I said how excited I am!?
If I ever have the money, I REALLY want to breed her to Rock Hard Ten for racing....that would be one HELL of a wicked colt - that could run or jump....mmm to dream....Deputy Minister/War Deputy lines crossed with a Kris S. stud....mmmmm ;)
I soooo can not wait to see this baby! It will be amazing! Makes me want a baby horse too! Won't be long and maybe I will have another. Still deciding, and Manhattan is still in the running. Good luck!
I like this black horse
Aww what a sweet surprise! Mom and dad (and future dad too..) are absolutely gorgeous!
