Someone at my barn was wondering if i would do a hunter pace with her and she kind of explained it to me .. but i would like to get some more information on them...
anyone have any experience with them? would it be a good thing to do?
The barn I used to be a working student at, and boarded at for 3 years, was - still is - a Fox Hunter Barn.
What it is, is you have a team of 2 - 3 riders and you are to ride the alloted trails marked in a certain time frame.
The trail will be marked, usually with staking tape * brightly colored plastic ribbony stuff, tied around tree's/branches* so the trail will already be designated.
Then the day before, a Hunt Member will ride the trail and time themselves or be timed - say it took them 30 mintues.
The day of the Hunters Pace, no one knows the time frame - but must try to get from start to finish in the time frame they feel necessary.
The team who comes in closest to the time marked, wins.
Least - that is how the barn did it.
There are, will be, fox hunter jumps - if you do it out on a Fox Hunter Run - so expect fences. Expect terrain, expect weather.
There will be lots of people, big crowds, lots of horse/rider teams - so be prepared for that as well.
Have fun! It is a hoot!
Also, some places do fastest timed courses, where obviously, whoever does the trail the fastest wins.
At my barn, we go to Hunt Paces all the time! We love them. Atleast most of the ones we go to at the very end, you sprint to the end and get your horse going as fast as it can. It's amazing!!
Some places also have flat trails where there are no jumps though. Actually I think all the ones I went to had jump trails and flat trails and then there were different classes for how high the jumps were.
I would definitely recommend going to one. They are a blast! have fun!!!
