Warming the bit?

When it's particularly cold, I like to warm up the bit before I put the bridle on. I tack up quickly so there is extra time before my lesson, and then I hold the bit in my hands and breath hot air on it. I was wondering if there is any easier way to do it that takes less time? What do you all do to warm your bits?

Stick it in his mouth and let him do it himself!

No I'm kidding. I usually hold it against my stomach, as cold as that may be, or I'd think microwaving a hot dishrag and wrapping the bit would work too.
They also sell bitwarmers online. :P

If you have a lot of extra time, you could take the bit off the bridle and stick it in a pocket while you groom and tack up too.

We have a hot water dispenser at my barn. I like to take a paper towel, dribble some hot water on it, and rub it over the bit. (Actually, if you aren't careful, this can make it too hot.) Also, if your tack room is heated, consider just leaving your bridle in there until you're ready to put it on.

I tuck the headstall under my jacket while I groom. Also makes the leather softer to put over the ears, etc.

You can get some of those Hot Hands things that people put in their pockets or gloves to warm up their hands. They start warming the more they are exposed to air. Just lay them on top of your bit and they should warm it right up.

bitwarmers.
Or, I don't know if this is an option, I leave the bit in my car so when i am driving to the barn it warms up from the heat.

I use a bit warmer. I toss it in the microwave for a few, and then wrap it around my bit.

It stays on the bit while I groom and tack up...then the bit is nice and warm for my man :)

When it is cold out, I dislike taking my winter riding goves off - so my hands aren't an option.

I love my bit warmer :)

Thanks for all the suggestions!! Tomorrow I'm going to try out some of the tips you all came up with. :D

I usually either run it under warm water (if I'm too lazy to do it myself lol), or I will just warm it up with my gloves on. :)
