Scared

I no i have mentioned in other posts but yes i had a very bad accident years ago on a horse,, it has taken me years to get my confidence back to get in the saddle, but, when i got in the saddle the other day i was tense and nervouse and couldent relax, i only walked for a bit then got of,(i was with my sister and i was on lead rope) ,,today i rode bare back and even had a canter and wasent bothered at all,, i loved it,, i think i might be scared of the saddle/stirrups as i felt 'trapped ' when in the saddle with stirrups, but bare back proper loved it,, does this sound stupid??? I am thinking now of getting a bareback pad and not using the saddle

So happy to hear you rode again and faced your fear! confidence is key when riding, especially after a bad fall! You do whatever you need to feel comfortable and happy, and as long as your horse is happy and you are happy (and safe) then I don't think riding bareback with a pad is stupid at all! I have gone through phases where I absolutely hated saddles! So good for you! Post your progress!

Good on ya :). Do whatever is comfortable for you. If you ride bareback all the time you'll have an amazing seat as well. I'm glad you found a way to ride through your fears :).

What ever works for your confidence, I say go for it!
Did you accident happen to involve not being able to get your feet out of the stirrips?? With a saddle I am very picky to ride with boots with a slick leather sole. I don't think about it anymore but, used to really bother me that if I needed to bail I don't want my feet being caught up. No fat babies, tennis shoes or such that may get hung up.

Whatever works! Maybe in time you'll feel confident about a saddle again. Give it time.
