Creating a bond?

I have recently just bought my first pony for hacking/schooling (everyday riding) and was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice in creating a bond with my pony. I was thinking it could be a good idea to use the school to lunge and maybe do some join up with him? Not looking to do loads of natural horsemanship things with him. Just wondering if anyone knew of ways to have fun/create a bond with him instead of just ridding to do so.
Thanks :D

Try the parelli "7 games". They are great for getting to know each other and for reinforcing good ground manners. Other than that, I make sure to spend friendly time with my horse. For example, I try to never just show up, exercise the heck out of her and put her away. She wouldnt be happy to see me after a few sessions like that, lol. Instead, I mix it up by taking walks together, playing "find it" games (where I hide food around the barn, especially sour areas, and we search for it), etc.
