I'm on STRIKE! Need a new vacuum.

I am a floor cleaningaholic. Isn't the first step admitting your addiction?

For Christmas I got a new Dyson, hate it! Parts keeps breaking, the cord is cheap and keeps kinking, pretty much a glorified dust buster that don't bust dust. Heaven forbid I try to vacuum dog food or hair, ain't happenin.

I did have an old Bissel that was pretty good, until DH (BLESS HIS HEART) started trying to help me out... Used it to suck up stove ashes!! (REPEATEDLY!) It's on it's last leg despite my most valiant efforts.

Soooooo.... What you got?
I need a tough one! I vacuum almost every other day.
Ideally it needs to suck up spilt dog food, dog hair, fine dust, do a good hardwood, yet not tear up my two nice rugs (Bissell eats them), and costs only around $200... With a hardwood floor attachment that doesn't get easily clogged.

Does such a thing even exist? :?

I'm on STRIKE! No company, no vacuum cleaning until I get a new one!

A built in vac sucks like no other! Makes all other vacuums blow in comparison!

This is somewhat of a philosophical question: Do you sweep the floor at all? If so, do you find sweeping or vacuuming more effective? I'm a sweeper (I have allergies so no rugs with the exception of the two entrance ones and they're rubber and some sort of synthetic - I like those) because I find that sweeping is more effective and requires less effort than running the vacuum; plus your not using electricity $$s.

I am a sweeper too, but when I am in a hurry, I use Brad's shop vac. It's so powerful, holds lots and lots, and has the normal vac end attachment.

Ugh. The bane of my existence. I have all ceramic or hardwood and may as well live in the barn & arenas...I am forever sweeping or vacuuming. I have a filter queen canister vac. It's lasted forever and does a pretty good job on the hard floors.

I am such a sucker, I love the built in, it sucks anything on everything except moisture and I only have to empty the canister maybe once or twice a year.

Wares, woman, I love built ins!!!
Grew up with them and had one in a prior house, it was a BEAST!
(HEY MOM!!! SUCK ME UP SOME UNDERWEAR!) *my brother, not ME!*
Unfortunately parts of my house are over 100 (dusty) years old, I have a roof under a roof, and mostly solid 4X4 walls... So it's going to cost me a fortune to put one in.

Lottery maybe?

I do dust mop daily, but their ain't nothin like a gooooodddddd vacuumin! LOL!
We don't wear shoes in the house, so if I feel grit I go BAZERK!

Told ya I was a freak! :-P
There's no hope.

What about that Swiffer thingy? My DIL has one, I used it at her place, decent tool, it sucked too.
