It's Here! Aussie Saddle

SQUEE! Super excited :D When I first paid for the saddle it said it should be here by the 17th (today), but then I checked today to confirm and the tracking system said the 23rd. Obviously they were wrong & when I got home it was waiting for me on the front porch.

It's a black older Kimberly. Label on the back says "The Poley." I was debating buying new, but liked the look of this one better. Has obviously been well used & well taken care of (except it could use a good oiling). The only thing that got me was how HEAVY it is. It probably weighs as much as my barrel saddle & dressage saddle combined. Which worries me with Dani :? No pictures of it on a horse yet as it arrived after I got back from the barn. Will try it tomorrow, see if I like how it rides/fits me, & if I can deal with the massive weight. If not I might be saddle shopping again :?

Yaaay! I absolutely LOVE mine and I've only ridden in it a few times. It IS heavy - about as heavy as my old Roper. I was a teensy bit disappointed, as hauling that thing on top of a 17 something hand monster is HARD - but my love of it outweighs my disappointment about the weight. I guess I'd read that they are heavier than you'd expect too, so it wasn't too much a shock.

The're SO comfortable - I hope it fits you and your horse well!

Thanks! Yeah I was like holy cow o.O they must have sent it with a ton of extra stuff. Nupe. Just the saddle. It was a task getting it down the stairs to my room LOL. Dani is currently off riding due to weight issues/injuries so I'll have to test it on Cally >.> I will feel your pain VERY soon. Short 5'3" person trying to toss this heavy saddle on a 16.2h WB. Oh boy.

I didn't buy it directly from Down Under so it's not custom fitted to Dani. I've heard you can send it back to them & get it fit. We shall see...

You can! It's a *tad* exspensive, I think it's 60 bucks not including shipping. I kept the box my saddle came in in case I had to send it in for anything LOL. I emailed them a while back asking if they could refit a used saddle, and they told me they could only make it smaller, not bigger... But I've read about people who order their saddle, it's too narrow and they send it back/get it adjusted. So IDK, you'd have to email and see!

I'm only an inch taller than that, so I can tell you from experience it's going to suck - I pretty much throw my saddle at Clementine and then shift it into position after the fact LOL

Oh good! From just eyeballing it on the couch to me it does look kinda narrow. Dani isn't ready to have it custom fit to her just yet anyway, but that's good to know they will.

Tomorrow is gonna be interesting >.> I need to figure out what to do with the excess stirrup leather too. They don't look like they're even on correctly to me.

Mine has a "collar" of leather that goes over the buckle of the stirrup leather so you don't get rubbed by it. I love my Aussie-I've had it for around 30 years, had to get new billets a few years back. I need to sell some saddles, but the Aussie will not be one of them.

I normally use English leathers with mine. However:

Hope those help some. I didn't see any good pictures on the Internet to explain.

I use English leathers and stirrups also. After riding in it last year, I finally broke down and bought a Cashel Aussie saddle pad. That overgirth isn't very comfortable on "girlie parts" -now I'm happy for hours! Congrats on the new saddle!!

I LOVE that saddle. Congratulations. I still long for the day to try out an Aussie for myself and that fits me. My husband loves them and had one before we lost it in a fire but it was a 20 inch and I never even slightly got a feel for how it should have ridden. I then tested out another Aussie for my husband just last week which was a 19 inch and still, HUGE! I ride a 14 to 14.5 barrel saddle so I would love to try out maybe a 16 inch Aussie some time. Yours looks more along that size. What size is it? Have fun trying it out!

Aussies ARE heavy, but once you use them exclusively, it changes to every other saddle being weirdly light. That's a gorgeous saddle, and I hope it fits you and your horse.
