What is the description of summerback? Is it a skin disorder? Is it to do with being sunburn't? What symptoms does it cause? I am interested. I'm not doubting you! Please elaborate more.

it is where a horse is black with brown in the flanks and on the muzzle and in summer it goes black

tumai 06-27-2007 05:25 AM

oh, like the difference between a summer coat and winter coat?

barnrat 06-27-2007 10:56 AM

well horses do change a bit of color from summer to winter...Myke is dappled in the summer and In the winter he is a grayish buckskin.

It sounds to me like he's talking about horses being bleached in the summer from the sun. We have two black horses at my barn that stay out all day and now they are almost light brown!!!

barnrat 06-27-2007 06:28 PM

well hes saying them going brown to black not black to brown. I'm going to look it up!

Mathew 06-27-2007 10:55 PM

yea barnrat is rite i mean in the summer they go black from brown

There nothing to look up though...... Sun bleach. I can recommend buying a rug :D Thats the main thing, i live in Australia like you and i find putting a lite summer rug on can fix that! Also the horses coat goes lighter in the winter-naturally.
Cheers
