This year...

...has been terrible for flies! Seriously here in VA has just been awful! But anyways to the root of my question. I have tried fly sprays, multiple kinds (endure, bronco, some natural kind, etc) and nothing is working. It may work for like 5 minutes and then it is no good. The problem I'm having is my mare has bites everywhere and she is so cranky constantly stomping and swishing her tail because you can tell they are annoying her. So this is probably a stupid question but do fly sheets actually help keep them off and from biting? I've never had to use one before but am seriously considering getting one for her. If so is there a certain brand you'd recommend?
Thanks :D

They definitely work! just make sure it's not hanging all off of her, and it fits right. It'll provide a very good physical barrier. The Schneiders ones are the best!!

Face flies are big problem here this year, more so than other pests. Bronco doesn't work at all for them, but a product that has been around since I was a kid (back in the stone age) called Wipe works like a hot ****! A little on a rag and a wipe here and there, horses are pest free. My one horse removes flymasks & flysheets from him and his pasture buddy and destroys them, so they are out for me.

Thanks! I will have to try the wipe. Does it come in a small jug? My gelding who also is having fly issues removes his fly masks too so I'm kinda wondering if he wont do the same to a fly sheet.

Wipe comes in a metal can just like it did in the stone age!

Pyrannha is great, but be weary with any fly spray when you first try it. Pyrannha is lovely on my mom's horse, but gives my gelding terrible hives. This could be caused by any new product you use on a horse though, and is not a slap to pyrannha, just a general warning when you test new sprays and wipes :)

I was always told to use vinigar. Just like for cats who pee in the same spot. Apparently flies don't like it. I haven't tried it but I am thinking of it because the stuff I got from walmart hasn't been keeping the flies away either.

If fly spray isnt working I'd try a Kensington Fly Sheet which you could purchase on horse.com. My sisters horse is allergic to bites from flies. After using the fly sheet his skin looked totally normal again, no bites!
