Snaffle bit fit
I just bought a 5" hunter dee bit for my horse. His eggbutt bit is 5" and fits him fine, but I'm not sure if this one may be a tad too narrow for his mouth. Is there supposed to be some space between the corners of the mouth and the bit ring? This dee ring fits right up against his mouth. I'm not sure if that's ok or if he needs a larger size.
I'm mad at myself because I didn't take my camera out with me to take pictures when I tried it on him, but I will tomorrow but in the meantime maybe someone could help me out.

This type of bit has always seemed to me a tight fit for its size. I think it's due to a combination of the straight mouthpiece (compared to the usual curved mouth of an eggbutt) and zero tolerance at the cheek.

If a 5" is a tight fit you'll probably find you need 5 1/4" (5 1/2" will be just too big) and finding one will likely be a problem :(

I believe it's ok, but what do you think?

I'm wondering why the nose band is over the bridle on one side?

I think the width is ok but drop your bit down a hole or so. Some people like to see a wrinkle in the lip, I like to see a wrinkle then drop it one more. Either way you have too many wrinkles.

Edit: I personally like the look of an eggbutt better myself. But again that's my preference.

Haha, yeah, I accidentally had it like that but then saw it and fixed it lol.

As far as the height is concerned, your horse looks comfortable with it so I'd leave it. '...should just wrinkle the corner of the lips...' (standard fitting for a snaffle) is so horse-dependent. The nearside wrinkle just means the bit's not sitting quite level.

For me, though, it's slightly too narrow. The lip ought to sit comfortably on the mouthpiece rather than be squashed against the 'cheek'. But again, if he's comfortable and you don't find any rub marks above his upper lip then it should be fine :)

Would a 5 1/2 be too big or fine? This bit does not come in 5 1/4.
