My horse has a fairly long mane that is not pulled. Are there any ways I could plait it so that she looks neat and it doesn't get tangled?
Thank you :D
i wouldn't leave a horse's mane braided, especially if they are being turned out every day. too much chance to get the braids snagged on something and have a large chunk of mane missing.
daily brushing, and 'no more tangles' spray, or other detangler product would be your best bet.
You could try a running braid (basically just a french braid)? Works for Friesans like the one in the video with a 4ft mane
There's a bit of silly-ness at the beginning, if you just want to skip to the educational part it starts at ~2:25
I would simply section her mane off in four or so (depending on how thick her mane is) sections and do very loose regular braids. Or a running braid, although I have found that no matter what, my running braids NEVER stay put when the horse is turned out. At all.
I leave my horse's mane in a running braid pretty much all the time and haven't had any problems with it falling out, getting snagged, or anything like that. But, my horse's mane is REALLY long (like 2-1/2 feet) I cut it back to about 18" last winter and did notice it would start getting loose faster at that length.
