Tall boots with lots of sizing options?
I seem to be surprisingly hard to fit in a tall boot. Having been a Western rider for the most part, I'm used to loose fitting boots that I can buy off the shelf. I've now switched to English, and have discovered that I'm some sort of freak. :?

I am 5'2", so I need a shorter-than-average boot. Since I'm pretty small, I also have a small foot (about a size 6). Unfortunately, I also apparently have gargantuan calves. They measure 15" at the widest point. Many boots don't offer a wide size until you are in a size 8 or so, or the wide is 14"-14-1/2", which doesn't work for me. Is there any company out there with a xwide/short in a small foot size? I'm not in a position to be able to pay $1000 for custom boots.

Is it possible to have boots that don't fit modified? I have no idea where I'd take them here. Does anyone have any experience with that? Does it end up cheaper than custom?

I know Auken does have their field boots in wider calf sizes. However Auken isn`t exactly top quality. I noticed that you out this three in show clothing. If you can`t find any field boots that fit, you can always go for a nice pair of paddock boots and leather half chaps.

Good luck ;)

EDIT: Soaking boots in hot water for ten minutes and shoving big wine bottles inside of the calf will stretch them too, if you find a pair that`s a relatively close fit.

I haven't had issues having mine refitted. I had an elastic panel and a zipper put in as my calves have gotten lager with age/weight gain. I went to a boot/shoe repair shop. Cost was $75 for zip and panel.

Treadstep has a lot of size options, maybe check into them. SmartPak carries them.

Ariat runs small, and by their size chart, they don't make my size in most boots. I mean they make it for something because its on the chart, but I haven't seen it anywhere. Treadstep's smallest size is a 37, which is a US 7. :( I've got some half chaps, but I was hoping to start showing, and the St. Louis shows require tall boots, although I guess it depends on what we show in. I think I read somewhere that half chaps are legal to show in for dressage up to 4th level, so maybe I will get away with it since we're babies. I had wanted to do H/J with this horse, but jumping does not seem to be her thing, at least not right now. I may get some used boots to have modified, too. There has got to be someone in St. Louis who can do it even though there's not anyone here. Thanks for the suggestions!

Find boots that fit your foot and that are tall enough (or too tall) and have a cobbler modify them.

I swear they make boots for skinny children with stick legs only. I'm not a big girl and I take their XWide calf.

I'm in the same boat as you- 15" wide, 15" tall. I found a pair of Tredstep "Custom Fit" half chaps in this size and am still astounded at how well they fit. I have a pair of Ariat short/wide that had been my "show" half chaps for years and they're nowhere near as good a fit. To my knowledge TS doesn't make a "Custom Fit" tall boot but if they did I'd be all over them :-)
