I have an ottb and any time i take him to shows he gets extremely nervous. To a point he actually threw me off a jump.http://www.horsegroomingsupplies.com...smilies/no.gif (I don't smack him or anything) I know its nerves cause he just shakes. We are going to try a calming agent paste. I hope I get some advice on which ones work the best and hopefully find a b-1 supplement that is great.
The majority of pastes have substances that are banned for all shows that are affiliated with USEF so you have to be careful what you use and read all of the active ingredients. The banned substance list can be found on their website, United States Equestrian Federation, Inc. They legalized Tryptophan just this year. B-Kalm paste is the only supplement that I know of (i'm sure there are more, it's just the only one I know of) that is just tryptophan without something else illegal added in. I believe it takes 2 hours to start kicking in but works fairly decently. I've used Quietex which also works well but it has Valerian root so you can only use it when you school, not when you're showing. When I owned a very hot and anxious little pony I bought a giant tub of B-1 from SmartPak that was pretty inexpensive and it worked wonders! Plus it's legal. :) Good luck!
Thanks! Do you know anything about easy going paste?
never used it... but it contains kava kava which is a banned substance. b-kalm is probably your best bet.
Have you tried Rescue Remedy? Not sure if there are any banned substances in it or not.
