John Lyons Ground Control Manuals?
 

Has anyone used John Lyon's Ground Control Manuals? My filly is turning 2 in May and it's time to start putting some serious groundwork on her now that the weather is getting nice. The problem is that when I start working with her, I'll finish one exercise, and then I'm like, "Ok, what now?" This manual seems like a good way to stay organized with my lessons and have a path to follow, which is important to me since she's the first baby I've trained. Any feeback on this manual set?

I have the ground control manual. I am not sure if it is still published, as i though Lyons went to a "everything from the saddle" method.

Either way, the manual is a good book that does its job. I, for one, can recommend it.

There is a big "downside" in my opinion. Lyons tends to break things down into hundreds of small tedious steps. You need patience to work through pages and pages to get to the smallest thing. Again, what he is saying is good and valid - he just takes a while to get to it.

It's a good place to start. As Colorado mentioned, it is broken up into many steps, lots of steps, but then again, if you don't know the why, just doing the motions won't help to be sure you don't put any holes in the training, eh? It's tedius, yeah, but it's necessary, I think to know everything about, well, everything...or as much as possible.

Anyhow, If you're more the visual learner and want more to the point stuff, Clinton Anderson's ground work dvds have some really great stuff.
