One year today!
Today marks the one year that I've been jumping! I know that I've improved a lot, but I feel that I still have so far to go. My trainer is always super honest, but I'd love to get a second opinion from you all. I feel like maybe I come too out of the saddle? And are there any great exercises to help my lower leg not slide back so much?
(Excuse the "training wheels", skinnies are still alarming to me!)
You guys look good :)
It seems to me as if you are standing up morso than folding your hips, which is why you feel like your coming out of the saddle too much. See how your hovering over the pommel rather than your seat? Pinching with your knees causes your leg to slip back, and your upper body to go forward. Also, tuck your elbows in and try not to brace on the horses neck with your hands. By folding at your hip rather than standing in the stirrups that will encourage your leg to stay closer to the girth, also I would personally shorten the stirrups a hole or two, but thats probably optional with lower jumps. Grid exercises and stirrupless exercises are also helpful for leg position. Toes in, and heels down more ;) Beautiful horse!
Shortening your stirrups will give you a more solid base in your legs and seat to be able to get into an effective two point position. You look pretty good though! You are looking where you are going and are giving an appropriate release. Your reins look a little floppy over the first fence, but no huge concerns there as long as you don't snap him in the mouth upon landing. Be careful that you do not get into the habit of doing chicken wings when releasing though.
Gallop On made good points as well.
Edited to say: I LOVE your jumps/standards! They are really neat looking.
Thank you for the advice! It's good to know that shortening my stirrups will help me out a lot. :) And thank you, we work very hard to maintain them!
