Energy drinks before riding?
So I am generally just a tired person you could say, and my riding sort of suffers from that. I plan on drinking some redbull tomorrow before my lesson so I can have some energy. Does anybody else drink energy drinks before riding? If so how long does the "energy" last for? Am I going to get a heart attack from drinking one and then riding, lol. I am kind of nervous to drink it.
I would suggest another brand, maybe? I'm not sure what THEY have, but I don't think that Redbull is very good for you at all. I haven't HEARD too much other than my mom griping about them being horrible for me (and I drink one every few months, hahaha -- I'm almost certain I'm doing very little harm to myself, and that if you drink them with moderation you'll be fine), the other brands. But I've seen a few things that make me look askance at Redbull. I'm not ENTIRELY sure that they were right in the first place, or if they were that they are still valid now, but. Caution can be a good thing, even if you do only drink them every once and a while. :) Maybe somebody else will remember the news thing I saw about Redbull...all I remember was that it was bad. I'm not sure, but I'd maybe suggest a different brand? I know that espresso usually works for me, but it does make me a little jittery. If you want to go on taste, NO5 orange actually TASTES good, like, really good. All of the others just taste waaay icky, but it's worth it! ;)
I don't know. There are much healthier ways to get some instant energy. A glass of orange juice or some other healthy natural snack. The one thing about energy drinks is that they can make you very jittery and jumpy and can actually make your riding worse. If you want to get technical, anything that is high in caffeine or guarana is very bad for you and is hard for your body to process. I have heard good things about those 5 hour energy shots but I have never tried one.
Hmm, healthy snacks don't give me energy. I eat oranges and bananas among other things and don't feel anymore energetic than I had prior. I'll check out those 5 hour things. Thanks!
The fact is, all these energy drinks are NOT good for you. I am surprised at how popular they are when so many people are focused on "health." You may as well buy some black beauties (uppers) on a street corner.
Energy drinks are basically a high dosage of caffeine and sugar. One can argue about the safety of the amounts in a "serving" of "energy drink," but many believe it is too much.
Sugar and caffeine will give you a quick rush (I hesitate to call it "energy). The problem is that the energy is short lived and once the effect wears off you "crash." So after a short time (depends on the person - I guess it can be an hour or so, for me it lasts no more than 15-20 minutes) you end up worse than where you started. So you end up _needing_ more energy drink and the cycle perpetuates itself. I am no doctor, but common sense would indicate it can't be good to keep feeding your body artificial stimulants.
If you want more energy, there are ways to do it:
1. get enough sleep (different people need different amounts)
2. exercise regularly (real exercise)
3. Eat properly. Stay away from the junk food and stimulants like caffeine
Since you should be doing at least #2 or #3 upon advice from a doctor, you can also ask him/her about vitamin supplements. If feeling tired all the time after following 1-3, you may have a deficiency of iron, B-vitamins, etc. A doctor is best to evaluate and advise on your situation.
More information than you probably wanted, but I have a real peeve with these "energy drinks" that IMO are not a good thing.
Anyways, I drank the Red Bull but I didn't feel any difference what so ever. So their wont be a point in me trying it again.
