My lazy bum is fat and out of shape
Yesterday the weather was good and most of the ground was acceptable to do some work on so I decided to start to get the guy working after lounging around all winter just eating and dreaming of mares.:-P
He kinda looked at me when I put the gear on but being the stoic type just stood in the crossties listening to what was going on outside. I couldn't believe that I could not do the girth up to the usual holes and only made it to two holes short of where they normally go.
So out we go to lunge and he started to do his usual caprioles on the line but after 5 turns around he was huffing and puffing. The best I could do in this session was 8 min in total for both sides and he was all done in.
At least until he came back to the barn and saw the pretty filly in the crossties. Oh that untapped energy that always seems to be held in reserve.:-o
Anyways put him back in his stall with a flake of hay and he just sank to the floor and munched on it from there.
I think I have my work cut out for me this year on the lazy sod.:-?
So anyone else have their work cut out for them?
bah..the horse is fine..it's me that needs to get in shape.
Gotta agree and empathize with both of you, Spyder and Wanderlust! Judging by the energy they display regularly in their paddock you'd think getting into shape will be a snap! Sadly that isn't to be.
Only place I have to ride at the moment, due to the "softness" of the ground (we call it mud season here ) is the driveway or the road. But that's okay because none of us are up to too much at the moment.
Lots of work ahead since I didn't ride this winter, snow was way to deep, was too cold, I'm getting way to good at excuses, ect...I'm becoming a "fair weather" rider!
Nice to know I'm not alone in this task. :-)
We've had rain for nearly a week straight and today it is gusting to 30 mph so no riding until tomorrow at the earliest. I'll start to bring him back into shape this week and have him ready for cows and trails in a month or so. I'm thinking about trail classes this year. I haven't shown in quite a few years but I'm getting the urge to do it; just not sure Bo is the right horse for that discipline.
Last summer I was loping Tana in circles for half an hour at a time now after 15 mins of trotting she was wasted...lol.
I'm sure it will take my awhile before I get myself back into shape as well!
I'm pretty out of shape and have been trying to remedy that for a couple of weeks now. Soda has been exercising himself fairly regularly for a couple of weeks now.... Just yesterday he was running circles in the paddock.... waiting for me to come out :-) LOL, I was really excited to go ride the muddy bronc racing around the paddock. :-) Poor bored horse! Its too muddy to really ride anywhere though except the driveway & a couple of blocks of road. Now we are supposed to get like 8" in the next couple of days... ergh
yep me and our horses are all out of shape, wait round is a shape!
I was talking to Spyder, the horse, the other day and he told me that his bum was in fine shape but Spyder, the woman's bum was another story all together!:wink::shock:
