Hello from Long Island, NY

Hi All, what a great forum!!!
I own a 34yr old quarter horse for 29 years now.
I'm married and have a 7yr old son (who is not a horse person) but loves go kart racing (just what I need another expensive sport).
Owning a horse in theses parts has gotten REALLY expensive but I rough board him and he is happy where he is.
I work full time overnights as a medical lab tech and it gives me the days to be a mom and horse owner.

Welcome! :-)

34yo QH, that is impressive. He sure found a dedicated owner in you.
Is he retired or can do light jobs?

He is pretty much retired, he has recovered from laminitis and is arthritic in his back. But with a light saddle and a kid he is fine. He does play in his paddock with me and loves to give me a hard time when I give him a bath. The vet said as long as he can get up from the ground and walk to a feed bucket he is fine. Everyone calls him grandpa now because he is turning grey, he was a sorrel. I have done a lot of research on senior horses and though its a pain to wet his feed every time (especially in winter) its worth it because he has done so much for me over the years.
