Has any body used 'straw pellets' and if so how did you find them???
Do they keep the stable warm in winter or is it best to use normal straw bales??
I do no the pellets are easier to keep the stable clean,as its easier to pick the poop out with minimal waste,,,
What do YOU use in the stable for bedding??
Pellets for a base and them some shavings on top. The shavings are merely to make my mother in law happy as they mean "comfort" to her.

Most everywhere I have kept my horse at have used shavings. My best friend had a covered area that a company would come deliver shavings once every 6 months or so. She had mats down in each stalls so we would go pick out the bad every day and just add what we needed. I haven't used pellets because my silly Saddlebred thinks it's grain. Haha. But the shaving's seemed cost effective and we're much work.
Also on rubber stall mats. For bedding: pine wood pellets. A little more expensive than shavings, but less dusty, easier to store, very easy to clean the stalls and it smells good. Straw isn't easily available in my part of the continent. Straw pellets: never even heard of it!
Make sure you wetten some of the pellets so there is a couple inches of fluffy stuff for the horses comfort. Don't want them standing on pellets (slippery), and they aren't comfortable to lie down on (could get sores).
I have put pellets down, and it was just to absorb a pee puddle. one bag lasted over a month.
My horses are in what is referred to as a mare motel, covered run .. basically outside, not a box stall. You could put down the pellets, they will absorb the pee and swell up, and put straw or shaving over the pellets.
I've only ever worked or boarded where shavings were used, but I think they would still be my preference. They are cost effective in my opinion, and easy to clean.
I prefer this brand:
I've used others and they are much harder to pick; though it does take about 3 full bags to bed a stall to my liking with this brand. I'm very picky about shavings, and like 3 inches thick or more...
