Hello from Pennsylvania!
Hi there!

My name is Tess and I reside in Pennsylvania (originally from Connecticut) and I am a senior in high school at an independent boarding school.

I am lucky enough to be able to keep my horse right across the road from where I go to school/live during the academic year, so I get to see her all the time. I spent all summer living with my farm owners as I took private class, so I got to see her all summer as well. When I finish school she should be coming to college with me, assuming that I find a barn that will take her and a job to pay for her, otherwise she is perfectly fine staying where she is right now. I know she would be magnificently taken care of.

I am lucky in the sense, that the farm owners (who previously owned her) pay for her for me, otherwise I wouldn't be able to have her. They are like my second family and am very grateful that they do such a nice thing for me, and treat me like their daughter.

I don't plan on going into the equine world as an adult other than a hobby, but would like to become a Chemical Engineer because I really enjoy chemistry and math. I hope one day to have a nice sport horse breeding establishment on the side, to dabble in horse genetics and producing capable, willing, and athletic colored horses for all disciplines.

My mare's name is Winnie, and she is an '01 Paint mare. When I first met her she was quite nasty and took nearly 4 hours to catch. With time and patience, she transformed into a willing member of the equine community.

We had a lot of "Nay Nay little mare" moments when we first began, and she was quite evil and naughty. Consistent handling, and expectations have lead her to a life where she knows she must comply with what she is asked. I hope to start her jumping this fall, ride her lightly in the winter, and then introduce her to eventing. She catches on quite quickly, and surprisingly loves surprising and pleasing herself!

I am worried about her hing end right now, as she seems to have an ever so slight paddle to her gait, but I think an appointment with a chiropractor should fix that. I am in the process of looking now.

I keep her barefoot, and trim and rasp myself under the oversight of a professional. I usually have the farrier out every 3rd time, so I will do it twice in a row, and then the farrier will come in and do any major touchups. I love having barefoot horses, and the difference in their movement and athleticism is astounding!

I easyboot her on trails because she can get sore out on hard surfaces like jagged small rock pathways, but I am homing if next year is drier her feet will toughen up again as they have been in the past.

Anyways, enough of me "talking", here are some picture.
If you have any questions feel free to ask! :-)

Welcome to the forum Tess! :-) Nice introduction, you write well.

Lovely mare, I like her markings. You've come a long way with her, your perseverance seems to pay off. What Easyboot do you use?

We use Easyboot Bares. I am hoping to get a set of Gloves for jumping, and updating to the Easyboot Edge at some point. As of right now, we only boot in the front, but if we get more into long distance trail, I will consider doing all 4 feet.

We had a professional fitter come out and fit the boots. It is really important to keep a proper trim so the boots fit, as well as sit properly on a horse's foot. :-)

You can certainly do it easily without a fitter, by renting out an EasyCare Fit Kit from EasyBoot.
