I got Cargo in May of 2012. I was browsing Craigslist and saw an ad for a "Red Mini Colt". There wasn't much to the ad and the pic was of a black pony with a red rump in the far background. For some reason I just had to have him. So I emailed the owner and set up a time to get him, yes completely site unseen, but they told me he was healthy =/. Anyway we take our mini van and go pick him up. Lady says they found him in a ditch as a yearling a year ago.(My guess is someone threw him out cause he wasn't a spotted appy) When we get there they bring out this scraggly little thing named "Ratsy" that tries to bite everything. We load him up and take him home. It's dark when we get home so I throw him in the pasture and head to bed. Didn't get a good look at him till morning. He was covered in flakey yellow fungus and he was about 50-75lbs underweight and had a super distended, wormy belly. He bit anything that moved, barely led, wouldn't pick up his feet, and really didn't know anything. Over the next few weeks he gets wormed, a nice body clip, a few baths, some nice hay, and some major manner lessons.
Now 15 months later, He's gelded, He drives, doesn't bite, kick or buck, jumps amazingly, is amazing with his feet, you can hang on him and do pretty much anything, he doesn't spook at much, he will go through, over, around anything you tell him too, and just an amazing little horse. Oh and he hasn't needed any major vet bills yet lol *knock on wood*
and here are pics(from then to now)
Aww, he's so cute!! And he's improved so much!
He looks really wonderful!
Thank-you for giving the little guy a chance in life. :D
He's a great looking little dude! great work on him, he looks fantastic!
The little black is my two year old Beau. I got him two years ago as a weanling. I worked for a man with over 50 of them training all his babies. He had a stallion that I was absolutely in love with. He was bred to about 15-20 mares a year for the last 5 years, and not once had a colt. (Not sure if this was just pure luck, or otherwise). I asked my boss if he would ever be interested in selling him, and of course he said no. His stallion did happen to have his first, and only colt that summer. He gave me the colt as kind of a bonus for my work that summer, and I have been head over heels for him ever since. Did I mention he is identical to his sire marking and personality wise?
And this pretty little lady is Chocolate. She's a 10 year old mare that I got from my trainer. She was boarding her for a friend that had her before at a large warmblood facility with her other mare and was paying $800 per month to keep her there. My trainer offered to board her for the lady. When I came up for the summer, I fell in love with her gentle sweet personality. Later that week, her owner told my trainer that if she could find a good home for her, she was willing to give her away, as she deserved more attention, and love than she was giving her.
