How to get stronger hips?

I just had my fifth lesson, where I learned how to post. It went out very good, my coach said my position, posting and all is really good, but I need stronger hips. How to do that? xD.

I don't know how much this will help, and I don't think I'll be able to explain it 100% accurately, but here goes!

My trainer only just showed me this, to help with my position. Hold your hands parallel to the ground, with your pinkies against your belt line. Your hands need to be flat (parallel to ground) so you can See that you're doing this right. All you're going to do is shift your hips forward just enough to lift your hands up slightly. Just enough so that you can see your hands being pushed upward. You want it to be a subtle movement because it's a subtle movement in the saddle. It doesn't feel like it's doing much, but if you keep at it, and do this a few times every day, it might help.

Good luck, and I do hope I explained that properly.

I'm intrigued! Stronger hips help with riding? Can someone explain this further?

My understanding is hips are actually the tips of your pelvic bone

I'm thinking you need stronger thighs. Hips are a hindge that need to be supple, not strong. I like MyBoyFortune's idea. Posting without stirrups and posting trot with really short stirrups will get you strong legs quickly.

I don't ride English obviously but I read this thread the other night, I have been thinking about it and will offer what was told to me, wrong or right.
Hopefully someone will correct me or give some insight on what I was told because I don't completely understand it myself.

Doing stirrupless work, but at a standstill, I was asked to move my legs straight out away from the horses sides without losing my upper body position(keeping my core engaged) I found I could only do about 2-4 "leg lifts" without weakening in engaging my core and having to use my whole body to help me move my legs in the lifts and it caused some major cramping in the muscles(no idea what they are called) that run along the side of the butt and hip. I was told leg lifts on the floor would help strengthen those muscles. I am pretty sure that strengthening those muscles doesn't mean that those muscles need to be tight but just need to be strong for when you need to use them. For me, I think for keeping my leg underneath myself properly or changing my leg position independently of my upper body. Again, I am not sure because I was never taught proper equitation. I'm just kickin' an a pullin' ..LOL!
Another exercise I did was keeping by upper body in position and lifting my lower leg up so I could grab my spur with my hand. It also used those muscles and stretched the top of the thigh. Those two exercises may have been more about reminding me to keep my core engaged but I really felt it not only in my core but those muscles that ran along the side of the hip joint.

Squats! Squat thrusts! Your legs will burn but it will do you good- i can hold two point and post for days- when i played football i would do a lot of squat thrusts and i saw how it helped with my english riding.
