Livestock lost in Callander barn fire, Ontario
A sad story again. I don't know who this was, but they are not far from me. So sorry for everyone involved.
CALLANDER—It only took the Callander Volunteer Fire Department eight minutes to arrive on scene, but by then there was nothing firefighters could do to save a few stranded animals.A two-storey barn on Wookey Road was fully engulfed when crews arrived at about 1:15 a.m. Thursday.
“By the time we arrived there was nothing we could have done for the animals,” said Jim Warren, a Callander volunteer firefighter.
“I believe there were three or four horses and a dog.
“The upper level had collapsed and our job was to contain and protect the surrounding structures. The house was far enough away not to be at risk, however there was another structure, like a small barn or shed, that was closer.”
Warren said barn fires are usually stubborn, especially when there is hay stored inside.
More than 20 firefighters responded and remained until 5:30 a.m.
No cause has been determined and the estimate of damage wasn’t immediately released.
Warren said the owner was in shock, however will recover.
“It’s always a shock when you lose something like your barn and livestock,” he said.
“Nobody likes to be awakened in the middle of the night to something like this.”
I don't know what to say... That is such a tragic story, those poor animals... :-(
