Does anyone know if mixed breeds are good horses? Becuase I'm going to buy this 3 year old mare for my first horse and she is a quarter/paint and she's solid colord so she has like a funky stripe but no other markings maybe a sock or two. But any way are the mixed horses any good?
Well I can't help you much with the breed but her markings sound very neat :) !
A mixed breed horse can be good, or it can be bad. Just depends on the individual. My concern would primarily be that you're getting a young horse as your first horse; a mix that often times ends in disaster. Have you been taking lessons from someone, or do you have a trainer lined up to help you?
Quarter horses are typically an easy breed, and a paint is nothing more than a spotted quarter horse. But each animal has it's own personality and that's what you need to be aware of. You can't love away confidence or trust issues, nor can you love away bad habits, but you can love enough to create them all
Quarter Horse x Paint
If the colour is soild with no markings Exceeding over the knee's or huge markings over the face are Generally classifed as a QH (but the paint backs up in there still).
If it has paint markings.. Such as Overo/loud overo and so on it can be classifed as a paint.
Because its the same with TB x Paints..
If they have Colour (like overo/loud overo/belly splash ect) they are regeserable paints/paints.
If they have no colour at all and are just a soild bay they are a paint bred thoroughbreds.
As my familys friends Qh and Paint breeders told me.
I can fix horses that have problems like:
won't go in the trailer
afraid of objects(whips,bags,ropes,hats,ect.)
won't back up
won't stand still
so I have some exsperience with horses.
I am so exited im getting her though! She's very sweet!
Should be no problems there, paints were originally bread from quarter horses. In fact, the APHA gladly registers paints with QH parentage.
In any case, you can bet on the horse having a great personality.
