I have a gelding with a really horrible coat. His coat is thin and he gets dandruff easily. Has anyone had any luck with any hair and coat supplements, special feeds, shampoo, etc.?
Flax seed, flax seed, flax seed! It's amazing stuff and it's extremely inexpensive. I give my horses two tablespoons a day and they've never looked better.
Any high-quality feed will help his coat, and you can use Head and Shoulders for the dandruff.
Good luck : ]
What is his diet now?? deworming scheadule??
He's a new horse and he's only been here a few weeks, but I have been feeding him high quality orchard grass with EGM Stable Mix and grazing time. He's a rescue, so I don't know his history, but since I've had him he has great nutrition and has been dewormed. I'm just looking to see if there's an extra boost I can give him.
For the dandruff I suggest Head and Shouldersor regular listerine. My OTTB's skin is still getting over from being off the track and I have the same problem...
Also corn oil will help premote shine and growth as well as MTG. Its stankyyy lol...but its amazing.
Cocosoya, Cocosoya, Cocosoya!!!! My horse has been on it for years and will never be off it. It's great stuff, my gelding has a really beautiful coat, nice hard hooves, he's in good weight and it makes manes and tails grow like crazy! I had his mane about three inches long last spring (I cut it last March) and it's now past his neck. Horse's love the taste too, when I worked at a barn I noticed some horses get 'tired' of eating vegetable oil, but they never get sick of this stuff. You can get it in 1 or 5 gallon liquid tubs or in a powdered supplement from Smartpak. I love it!

If all he has is dandruff then I suggest using cowboy magic's dandruff shampoo that stuff is magic... also flaxseed and fish oil are great for their coat! We just take three vit pills of fish oil and squirt on our horses grain and they look fantastic... also molasis works great as well... maybe get him a molasis lick
flax seed ... whole flax is digested and is fairly cheap ... :)
I always put one cap full of Sunflower Seed Oil in with my horses grain. My trainer told me about it when my past horse developed nasty coat issues. It really helped.
i would try corn oil...i had a similar problem and this worked like a charm!!!:-)
